Perhaps the most visible of the many programs operated through the Area Agency on Aging is its Senior Activity Centers. Located throughout West Alabama, Senior Activity Centers are the central location for numerous community-based programs for seniors. Anyone aged 60 or older and their spouse is invited to join one of the many Senior Activity Centers. In addition to providing hot, nutritious meals, the centers are used to provide informative programs as well as the opportunity to socialize with peers.
Senior Activity Centers also offer home delivered meals for those homebound persons who are in need of a hot, nutritious meal. Space for this program is limited and eligibility must be established prior to receiving services.
Numerous access services are provided in each county and are available for seniors who require them. Transportation is provided for participants to doctors' offices, drugstores, senior activity centers, public service agencies, and grocery stores. The types of services offered may vary by county.
