OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM

Another function of the AAA is to investigate and assist in resolving complaints of long-term care facility residents. This is done through the Alabama Department of Senior Services Ombudsman Program. A Community Ombudsman is trained and certified by the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman of the Alabama Department of Senior Services and is available on a local level to promote well-being and quality of life for long-term care residents. The Community Ombudsman is also available to act as a liaison between complainants' families and health care facility personnel, and provide public education programs on long-term care issues. There are no age requirements to receive ombudsman services; a person need only be a resident of a long-term care facility.

To learn more about the services available in your area, call the Area Agency on Aging at (205)333-2990. Individuals outside Tuscaloosa County should call 1-800-AGE-LINE.
