West Alabama Regional Commission was designated as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for West Alabama by the Alabama Department of Senior Services in 1973. For more than twenty five years, the AAA has been responsible for assessing the needs of older persons in the seven county region; distributing federal Older Americans Act funds to direct-service agencies for the provision of services to older adults; helping agencies and local governments plan services for older persons; and providing information about available resources to older adults and their caregivers.

Through contracts with various service providing agencies throughout the region, WARC provides numerous programs and services designed to meet the needs of individuals 60 and older in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties.
